Redbridge Panjabi Sabhiacharik (Cultural) Sabha

Serving the Community since 1983

The New Commonwealth Womenís Health Group was initiated in 1993, and is still going strong, with the financial assistance of London Borough of Redbridge.† Clients are referred to the project by statutory services such as GPs, hospitals and health clinics.† The project is run by a project worker with the assistance of volunteers to provide services such as counselling, physical and mental relaxation, yoga and reflexology, outings, music therapy, arts and crafts and confidence buildings through group discussions.

Area Committees 5 and 7 have granted us funding to start a Healthy Eating Project for the users of the Centre.† Research shows that Asian elders are vulnerable to poor health for a variety of reasons and circumstances.† Asian men are particularly prone to cardiac disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.†† This project is aimed at promoting health education through lectures and talks by health professionals and through healthy eating and lifestyle.

The Panjabi Centre is one of the many voluntary organisations taking part in the exercise project being run by Redbridge CVS in partnership with Redbridge PCT and L B Redbridge.† We were given 20 weeks for menís yoga, and 20 weeks for ladiesí chair based yoga.†
